  1. I've just got an NEC 3500.
i've already got an NEC 2500 which I'm very happy with.

I've tried out the 3500 and all hasn't gone well so far.
I had trouble writing to a DVD +RW, it failed twice before working on the thrid go.

I also had trouble buring to a DVD -r.
Still haven't given up hope... maybe just bad media.

One thing I did notice was that the light at the front does not come on when it's recording.
    Should it be??
    Does this indicate a malfunction?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. The light should be on when burning and reading both. What brand of discs are you using? I burn on mine every day, sometimes all day, pausing to give it a break every hour or two is all. I haven't had any problems besides reading scratched discs. Could be a better reader, but it's a great burner.

  3. hmmm a bit worrying.
    i'm using bulkpaq 8x dvd -r's.
i think regardless of the media, the light should definitely come on.
    i think i'll return it.

    thanks for the reply.

  4. Maybe it isn't recognizing the media. You might want to try another brand of disc before you give up on it. It's a great burner, flawless every time. My first burner was an LG that went bad on the 17th burn, so it's possible it's defective, happens with all electronics, nothing's perfect.

  5. The light comes on. I know this because I was surprised that when it burns the light is green instead of red like on my lite-on cd writer. Intuitively I associate red with burning and I thought NEC should too.
