I just bought a new dell computer and installed my sony dru510.
It will only burn at about 1x although I set it to 4x.
I tried different media but no change.
I have the 1.1a firmware and windows xp sp2. (2.8ghz processor)
DMA is enabled. I'm using nero 6.6.
Anyone know why it won't burn at the faster speeds?

Do the other speeds (2X 4X) even show up in Nero's burning options or are they disabled?

They show up but only burns at 1x no matter what I select. The countdown timer is at 4x but keeps on going. It takes about 40 minutes to burn a full disk.

I had Memorex DVD'
s that would only burn at 2X with my 4 X old burner until I updated the firmware. -
Apparently my CMOS settings had the secondary drive turned off.
After I set it to auto detect, everything is fine. I'm burning at 4x now. -

Thats all I can get from my Sonys. If you read some of the other topics, it takes a miracle to get them to do 4x. U might try another firmware. Some of the old ones do better than the new ones for me. -
Since I fixed the CMOS setting, I can now burn at 4X in about 14 minutes for a full disk.
