    I hava TDK 1616N (firmware 2.78) DVD Writer that is capable of burning at 16X, but with nero 6.6.0.1 I only get 8X speed.

    Can anyone help me on what can I do to solve this problem?

    Is this firmware a hack to get 16X from an 8X writer and 8X media?

    No. The firmware is the original version shiped with the DVD writer.
