  1. Roxio is only burning at 2X, but my drive says it can burn up to 12X. Media is Fuji 8x DVD+R and DVDinfo says it is made by "Yuden", so it shouldn't be the media. Any suggestions? I'd be happy with even 4X, since I know that faster speeds can be less accurate.

Look for a firmware upgrade to your burner.

You could also look for a software upgrade.

You could also have dma turned off.

You may be using an 80 conductor cable.

Or your ASPI layer is borked.

    I use v4.60... v4.71 (?) didn't work for my system.

[edit] I just took care of the search I suggested (that part edited out). If none of the other ideas work, and you decide to try this, you might want to google a newer version of ForceASPI (v1.7/ASPI layer v4.6)...

  4. I have seen this comment about an 80 pin connector. Can you enlighten me about what this is, how I can tell if I have it, and what I need in its stead?

  6. Thanks for the help, guys. I got the answer: for some reason Device Manager wasn't showing Primary and Secondary IDE controllers. I updated the drivers from the install CD and Device Manager says its is using Ultra DMA Mode 5 (system) and Mode 6 (storage).

Should I assume that I do have an 80 connector cable?

    PS -
Just burned at 4X - I may try 6X next.
