  1. I've seen several HD capable PVRs now becoming available (eg. LG-LST-3410) but NONE have component or RGB inputs. Obviously this is done to prevent recording "copyright" HD content.

However, most seem to have Firewire input/output capability, I would assume so one could download HD content from future HD capable camcorders.

My question is, can one upload HDTV-MPEG2 files from a computer into these HD-PVRs and then watch the resulting HD-MPEG2 programming on the stand-alone PVR? or are these HD-PVRs programmed in such a way as to only be able to play specifically encoded MPEG2 streams from "authorized" broadcasters?

I did a quick search for you because I was curious, here's a link for one:

    http://www.radarcity.com/product?prod_id=6302

It states that you can record from many inputs; component, S-video, DVI,composite, RGB,RF, and firewire. You might have read the specs wrong, it looks like a nice unit, but it's price is a bit steep! Anyway, I hope that this helps you in your search.

  3. If you go to LG's site at http://www.lge.com/catalog/prodmodeldetail?actType=search&page=1&modelCategoryId=CTG1000472 and follow the "manual" link, you will find the LST3140A has only composite video inputs, not even an S-Video input.

BTW, what kind of HD contents do you have? At this point, my only HD sources are those HD cable programs recorded by my Mox (http://www.digeo.com) and I wonder where, how, and what you obtain HD contents.
