video upside down

Hi,

I have a strange problem.

I was told that a VOB is actually an mpg file. So, with dvdshrink, I
extracted a little scene from one of my dvd, then I renamed the
VOB file to an mpg file. Then I played this mpg file into windows
media player, and weird, the video is upside down !!!!!
Why ?

I read it, I have not installed any codec pack, that's for sure as
I read many posts saying don't install a codec pack.

Now for ffdshow, I never installed it, but will give it a try.

But this is strange, the full DVD is playing fine, why an extracted scene
is upside down ? The codec is the same, isn't it ? (Newbie here).

I also don't have nero.
