  1. I have searched the forum to get help with this, but didnt get lucky on that 1. My problem is:

When i burn my dvds and watch them, sometimes the movie jumps a few frames or the pixels are messed up The sound is wack and sometimes it stops. I tried using dvdinfo to check the discs and they have errors:

    Drive - _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A
Media ID Code - AML 001
    Media Type - DVD+R
    Read Error list
    1. Error - LBA = 00213a90h
    2. Error - LBA = 00213a91h
    3. Error - LBA = 00213a92h
    4. Error - LBA = 00213a93h
    5. Error - LBA = 00213a94h
    6. Error - LBA = 00213a95h
    7. Error - LBA = 00213a96h
    8. Error - LBA = 00213a97h
    9. Error - LBA = 00213a98h
    10. Error - LBA = 00213a99h
    11. Error - LBA = 00213a9ah
    12. Error - LBA = 00213a9bh

    And it goes on....

Its an rather old burner and i have burned about 200+ dvds on it.

Im kinda new at firmwire, but i upgraded it a year ago or so. Is it REALLY important to have the nevest firmwire? Im usin a NEC ND-1300A burner with Premiuim discs. I checked a few discs that i burned some time ago and they dont have errors. Also some of the movies that has erros runs smoothly in the dvd drive and no pixel jumps or anything. Is my burner going dead on me? Or might it be the discs? Im using dvddecrypter 3.5.1.0 to burn and it doesnt show any erros while burning. Could really use some help here, or i might go spend $$$ on a new burner that is really not needed.

    Thx Triton

  2. Are the discs dirty or scratched?

There probably isn't any newer firmware for NEC 1300.

Might be the burner even if 200 discs doesn't seem like much. I'd rather suspect bad discs. Maybe Premium shifted their manufacturer (or do you mean Premium as in "High quality"?) ? Take a look at the media code and compare the new discs (failing) with some old (working) and see if it's the same.

That isn't really the greatest media. It's a compusa disc or GQ or some of the cheaper brands. Try some better media and see if you still have the problem.

  5. yea forgot to write that its the same media. Its sometimes that this media, or whatever fails. The old once working are the same media as the once im getting erros on now. The discs have no scratches etc.

  6. Like i said im not that much into firmwire. Dont really know what it does. I installed it LONG ago but formated my drive recently. When u format and install windows again, does that mean you have to install this firmwire again? (might laugh at me right now :P )

Latest FW is about 6 months old.
OK, so you've checked the manufacturer code, and they're the same (not what's printed/engraved at the top surface). You've not changed firmware between "good" and "bad". You use the same sofware when you burn your discs, and you play them on the same player. Formatting/reinstalling Windows doesn't affect your writer.
The only thing left is that your drive is turning bad.

Do you have problems playing the disc in a DVD-ROM or a standalone DVD player?

  9. The once without error runs perfect. Some of the once with errors runs perfect. Some of the once with errors jumps frames and has bad pixels

  10. try quality media; have a 1300 and have burned about 450 dvdrs, and ripped another 600 dvds, burned 200+ cdrs. still works great, esp. with Herrie's latest installed. if you have not upgraded to his latest, try it. I can now burn some "cheap" media I bought for data only, plus my rip speed has improved from 4.9x to over 11.2x on some dvds!!

  12. What medias do you use?
    DVD+R.........CMC, Ricoh, MCC.
    DVD-R..........Ritek G04, S03.

these are mediaID codes for the media. they go by alot of brand names. refer to other areas on this site if you are not familiar with this. BTW some of my dvdrs have errors too, but plays well anyway. for example I will run KProbe on a dvdr and the error curve is much higher than "acceptable", but it does not skip, flicker, etc even on a settop. good luck.
