  1. Hi All,
I have memoriesontv 2.09 and it's been working great.
I just upgraded to XP SP2 (so far so good) and also my account type is set to user rather than admin.

When I launched MOT for the first time again, I got an error that MOT can only burn discs on an administrator account!!!

Can someone confirm this please. Seems silly.
Is there a work around? Do newer versions of MOT still have this requirement?
    Thanks for the replies
    -Cheers

  2. Even if you are not using Nero to burn CD/DVDs you can still use the utility "Nero Burning Rights" to give non-Admin users on WinXP the necessary rights to access burners:

  3. Thanks. Also I found the following information after a google search. maybe this will work too?

    from v2.tlab404.com:

Access rights, while being very useful, can sometimes be a real pain to work with under Windows 2000 and Windows XP. In particular, this problem applies to CD burning programs such as Nero.

The problem is that with the default Windows settings only the Administrator is able to burn CDs. There's a quick fix to this if you're using Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro (in XP HOME this doesn't work). The way that non-admin users can burn CDs is to set a security policy restricting access to the CD-ROM/CD-RW to local logged-on users.
Note: That remote users will loose access to CD-ROM and the CD-Writer.
This security policy restriction needs to be adjusted:
Click on Start, point to Settings, and then Control Panel.

    - Double Click Administrative Tools

    - Double Click Local Security Policy

    - Double click Local Policies to expand the tree

    - Click Security Options

    - Double click on Restrict CD-ROM Access to locally logged-on user only

    - In the dialog, select Enabled, then click OK

  4. FYI, the security policy tweak I mentioned above turned on the ability to burn to CD using native XP utility (explorer) but MOT still gives the same "you are not an admin, so you can't burn" error Bummer. Funny though NeroExpress works OK.
Just thought you'd be interested to know.
    I'd welcome any other ideas.
    Cheers!

  5. I don't know if this will help, but MOT site states to burn as an image> Then use the free software "burnatonce". This will burn the image onto cd for you.
