This sucks. I am back at work today and the kids aren't even here yet.

Had to take yesterday off to sharpen my "Northcat's *******" skills. Check this out. This company, shite company has been sending us magazines. I called them about 4 months ago and told them that we didn't sign up for anything and they are sending these magazines by mistake. So the next bill I get is $539.00 for the subscription or $239.57 to cancel. So I just didn't pay it and ignored it. Saturday afternoon they call, wanting to know where their money is or they were going to seek further collection action. I told him to go for it and that even if I won the lottery I was not going to pay them.

Shortly there after another guy calls me, and he's quite a bit more rude about it all. Well Sunday I was thinking about it, it was making me mad, Monday I was thinking about it...so yesterday they call again and that was it, I went to their company in person. Located in Ohio and not far from me. I get there, ask the secretary to speak to a manager or department head named "Mark". Apparently they only had one. Mark comes out asks "may I help you?" I tell him who I am...he doesn't remember (because I was not mean or rude on the phone with him)...but I tell him that I want to see their proof that I ordered a subscription to "Oprah, cosmo, better home and garden, red book" that cost $539.

I think it took him by suprise because he stammered a little and said that he was not allowed to share that information with me. I told him this was not an option and that I didn't drive all the way there just to meet him. He threatened me with calling the police I hadn't even been rude yet. So I said "Look Mark, I'm trying to be a nice ******* guy about this. You have a bill for me, I am the customer, I am at your company to see proof this bill is legit. I'm not trying to be a dickhead about it, but I can go from nice guy to ******* pretty ******* quick and if you want to call the police, go ahead, I've been to jail before, I will get my money's before they get here. Are you sure that's the decision you want to make?"

We are still in the lobby, and apparently the secretary has called a few other people because Mark's boss shows up. I speak to him normally and just explain why I am there and that I simpy want to see proof of the bill. He tried to fluff things up and tell me that me coming there is very unusual and they had never had anyone do that before. I said "well you have now."

Anyway, long story shortened, I go back to whistle britches' office, he looks through his computer and imagine that, he cannot find the paperwork. He makes a few calls and still can't find the paperwork. He appologizes and says that it has just been misplaced but they would fax me a copy. I said "That's not going to work. I want to see the paperwork or some proof that we ordered this right now." He tried to parlay me and I wouldn't have any of it. Eventually he told me that I could forget the bill and the magazines and them charging me had been a mistake. I told him to make sure I didn't receive another bill, and told him to go down to the spamming department, get any communications that they are getting ready to send me out of the loop and that I would give them 4 days. Any communication I got from them in the next for days I would just throw away. Any communication I got from them after those 4 days would constitute harassment and me and my lawyer would be back over.

I'm sick of people trying to **** other people over. Northcat is about to become a major ******* to all who try to screw me over. fuckers

    Hello,

Sorry to hear about that. At least you were pleasant in person so as to get to them. Next up try your local news channels. They always have an "investigative" department aching to crack down on local screwballs like that.

    Hope everything works out.

What a ripoff.... how many magazines does one need to order to constitute $500 worth. (At high end of $30.00 a year that would be 16+ subscriptions)

You gotta let us know how you make out. I would also file a grievance with somebody. BBB maybe.

Do a search on their company in the BBB and more than likely they will be in there.

THAT is exactly what I said! $500 for magazines? I know for 100% fact and I would bet my life that I did not knowingly subscribe.

I think the magazines are Oprah, Red Book, Cozmo, Better Home and Garden, ESPN, and there is one other "red book, cosmo" type that I don't read either.

I called them initially when I got the very first magazine/bill and told them of this error. I have not paid them one cent and they keep sending the magazines.

I wonder if one of your students subscribed you to all these mags. I'm sure they can go to one of several thousand web sites to sign you up.

Good guess. A nastier variation of calling up and ordering pizzas to be delivered to your house :P

That does suck. Glad to hear you got it straightened out man. You should check your credit report and see if they had sent it to collections. It sounds like they might have and if they did it is probably hitting your credit report. The big 3 are Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Trust me, unless you specifically told the guy you were dealing with to make sure it doesn't affect your credit, he doesn't care and won't check.

I had something similar happen to me. I called and explained to the company they made a mistake and they said they would take care of it. Well, I still kept getting a bill from them, so I took the "it's not my fault so I will just ignore it" attitude. I didn't think I should have to deal with it. Speaking from experience, this is not a good way to handle these type of situations. Later I was refinancing my house and I didn't qualify for a better rate because I had this bill that showed up as me not paying it on my credit report. The company had wrote it off and sent it to my credit report. It took forever to get that mess sorted out. Fortunately, I was still able to refinance at a good rate.

If one of these little children did that...while I do appreciate the joke, and do find it funny from their perspective. They best realize that they have a man sized ass whoopin coming when they turn 18.

In HS I signed my friend up for a trial subscription to Playgirl...in his name. But it was a trial subscription and didn't cost him anything other than his parents sitting him down and talking to him about being gay.

What happened to you is mail fraud. The USPS takes crap like this very seriously. The next time (and there probably will be a next time) these jerks use the US mail system to attempt extortion, go down to your local post office and talk to the Postmaster there. He will take your info and pass it to the US Mail Inspectors.

Say what you want about the USPS in general, but when it comes to mail fraud, these guys are like bulldogs. USPS Inspectors are even authorized to carry guns.
