  1. got a.mpg film when it plays in a player (media player) the film length is 14 min
but when i encode the film (tmpgenc) the result is just over 1 min with the rest of the film missing.
also put the film in tmpg source creator and when i look to edit the film again its 14 min long
but whe i run source creato its the same as (tmpgenc)

So, something's probably wrong with your mpeg. The demands on a source file are quite different between a player and an encoder (meaning a player can just skip bad parts while an encoder can't). And why are you encoding an mpeg to mpeg?

  3. the file needs encoding so i can use tmpgenc dvd author on it
then burn it to a dvd

Yes, I completely understand, but mpeg IS what TMPGEnc DVD Author expects as source material. Even if "mpeg" is a very broad, it might have the right properties to be authored without further treatment.
Do you have any more specifics of this mpeg (besides that it is an mpeg), like 1 or 2, resolution, bit rate &c?

  5. yes it says 3529 frames 30 fps 1min 57 sec long 320x240 res
but the run time in media player is 29min 01 sec

  6. Are you sure it's an MPEG and not an AVI with MP3 audio?
    Use AVICodec to find out.

So, what happens if you just try to author your mpeg "as is"?

Well, I hate to repeat myself, but the mpg seems damaged in some way. I have no idea how to fix broken mpgs, as I feel I have more rewarding activities to attend than fixing broken files (such as finding a working version)...
