  1. Thinking of using a jvc m10s with a Dish Net 6000 receiver. The dish box only shows a vcr option for setting up a timer recording.
Will the dvd recorder work with this box for timer recordings? I entered the Sat Box code but it never changed the channel when testing it. How would you set up a timer recording on the jvc? How does it read all the satellite channels?

It won't work like that, what you can do is program the dvd recorder to turn on at a certain time and have the dishnet box auto tune at the same time and it should work.I use the same trick with my panasonic E-80H and my dishnet ird.

  3. The JVC M10 is suppose to control the satellite receiver, switch channels etc. I followed instructions but can't get it to work.
I have the boxes "remote eye" to, that suppose to read the satellite box.
I can do as you mentioned, but the jvc should run the sat box.

I have a JVC DR-M10 and a Dish 811 HD receiver, the 811 will not send out a signal and start the JVC recording, I've tried every code it has and none work for the JVC. If Dish upgrades the software to control DVD recorders then this might work.

I got the free JVC Cable/DBS controller and this works fine for having the JVC switch channels on the 811 at the proper time but doesn't support channel numbers above 999. Unfortunately the HD channels for Dish Network are four digit numbers like 9427 that the JVC doesn't have enough positions for.

I normally just set an auto tune for the program I want on the 811 then program the JVC for the correct input and length of recording.

Takes two steps but it works fine.

  5. I tried it on a Dish 6000 box, and my 721 Dishplayer. Neither works.
Should of guessed it was a Dish problem.
Guess I'll record a program on the Dishplayer, then record it to dvd

Yes, you would have thought as new as the 811 is that they would have included codes for DVD Recorders. They could do it now in a later software upgrade if they only would.

Not sure but it looks like recording to Dishplayer then recording to the JVC would be encoding the video twice which usually results in lower quality. If you did it directly to the JVC it would only be encoded once.

You might want to at least try both methods and see. I don't have a Dish DVR but I'm sure setting it up to record is quicker than the way I do it.

  7. a. Just record to the 721 hard drive and then save to the dvd recorder later.

    b. the dishplayer as with any Sat.TV Std. def. PVR/DVR can only record the data stream off of the satellites. The HD PVR/DVRs as I understand it can record OTA HD broadcasts as they are already digital data. None of tyem have a MPEG encoder built in.

Offroad: The Dishplayer doesn't encode anything it just stores the data stream typically at 544 by 480 or 640 by 480 resolutions that DishNetwork transmits at. 640 by 480 is usally PPV & Premium channels. I actually like the 544 by 480 as my DVD players will play it fine, whereas 640 by 480 needs re-encoding to avoid space on one side of the screen.

    Cheers
