  1. Hello. I am a newbie in this. I have both Sonic DVDit PE and SE. So, here is my problem. Whenever I try to use one of them, it freezes and I have to go to Windows Task Manager to End Process. Is there a way to fix that? I have a pretty fast computer. Also, whenever I add a DivX file about 150MB, it counts it as about 800MB. Can anyone fix this? I would like to make a DVD that I can fit about 10~15 of these 150MB files. I have many videos I would like to put on DVDs.

    Thank you very much,
    Sean

  2. Sorry, but I really need to know this. I spent about $300 to buy the burner, DVDs, DVD labeler, and etc. and I do not want to let it go to waste. Can someone please help me? Thank you.

Im sorry I dont have an answer for you.But I used DvDit for a while the help at sonic is terrible.I am now using adobe encore when ever I have a problem with it I go to adobe forums and I usually get an answer.1 thing I would try is if you have both of them loaded PE & Se I would uninstall 1 and see what happens. Also if you have XP SP2 that may be causing some problems.

    Good Luck

    This is your problem.

Feed DVDit! MPEG files. While it can transcode some other formats to MPEG, it's not guaranteed. Too many codecs. This is true of all authoring software (if it can even transcode).

Do not skip the ENCODING step.

    CAPTURE
    EDIT if needed
    ENCODE if not already MPEG

  5. Well right now, I burned a DVD. It has about 300MB worth of AVI. IT transcoded and worked fine. The quality is amazing. The problem is that it takes sooo much space. I would like to put at least 10~15 of these videos on the DVD without it being in bading quality. Is there a way to transcode the files using a different program to make it a little bit smaller? I have some problems my friend told me about, but he still doesn't know how to do these things. He recommended TMPGEnc Plus (just bought). I tried transcoding the videos, but they turned out to be around 800MB. Can someone help me?

(BTW, thank you for the people who replied...)

Also, anyone have the same problem of DVDit! freezing on you?

    Thanks,
    Sean

  6. He also recommended MainConcept MPEG Encoder... I used it and it went from a 150MB DivX file to a 800MB MPEG2 file...

The TMPGEnc Plus does not work for me. When I try to encode it, it says that the .MPG file cannot be created...

Lower the video bitrate if you want smaller file size. You can calculate how big a mpeg2 will be using www.videohelp.com/calc

In tmpgenc plus use the wizard and you can specify the output size.

In mainconcept mpeg encoder you find the vidoe bitrate under Details->Advanced->Variable bitrate->Average.

    1. set the time from the video clip
    2. set the size you want it to be, you can specify it in MB if you click on advanced.
    3. set the audio bitrate, usually 224 kbit/s
    4. check the bitrate
    5. use it in the mainconcept mpeg encoder under average bitrate.

  13. .....once again, I just had to ask you this...

What file type should I put it under. The files are AVI (DivX), and I am going to be making it a MPEG2... Should I put it as a DVD type or a DivX?

Thanks again. (That would probably be my last question...^^)

  14. So... once again, which type should I put on the Bitrate Calc if I am encoding an AVI (DivX) file to a MPEG (DVD) file? Do I put DVD or DivX as the video type?

I think you need to read some more guides. You're obviously in over your head at the moment. DVD is MPEG1 and/or MPEG2.

  16. No no no... what I wanted to know was, which file type do I have to enable in order to get the bitrate for the conversion if I were to convert a DivX to a DVD. Do I put DVD or DivX?
