    i currently have a LG DAD-8020, thinking of an upgrade...are there any suggestions for model that will read dvd-ram contianed in its caddy?

    i'm not too fussed in taking out the disc from its protective shell!

    Take the disc out of the case. Not a big deal at all.

    Otherwise, some Panasonic DVD-RAM drives take the whole cartridge. Here's one:
