I have a file recovery app called Recover My Files 2.31; The problem I have with this app is it doesn't allow me to save the files to the same drive in which it was recovered from. It will only save to another drive or floppy. My intentions or to Delete some large files I have on my HD, create a backup of my HD, and then recover those large files that I deleted prior to the HD backup. Do you know of a file recovery app that will support saving the recovered files to the same drive in which they were recovered from. I understand the reasoning of saving to a seperate drive; I'm willing to take that chance. I'm also highly against wasting 6-7 DVDs just to save the files onto.

  2. You could always save them to DVD-RW's then you wouldn't be "wasting them".

I don't understand why you would backup files, then delete them only to "recover" them back to the original state where you started??

I understand you are only trying to help, but If I had any DVD-RW media, it would be very safe to assume that I wouldn't be posting this question

First off, Like I mentioned earlier, I don't have any dvd-rw media at the moment and I'm trying to avoid spending any money for them right now; So I'm trying to come up with alternative methods. I don't mind using two (at the most) dvd-r for my HD backup, but using 6-7 dvd-r's (which is how many I would have to use if I included all my movie files in the HD backup) is out of the question. In my current situation, I felt that (if it was possible) Deleting the movie files from my drive, and then attempting to restore them after my HD backup, made more since than to burn all those movies to DVD-r, only to watch the movies one time and waste a dvd. But it seems if I'm gonna have to spend the $20-$25 to get some dvd-rw

  4. Sorry I guess I need to read your post a little better.

    Here's a link for some cheap DVD-RW's:

If you have enough space you can make a partition and save the movies to that drive. That's "technically" another drive.

    Just an idea

Ahh man, Thats the solution that I needed I could have (like you mentioned) put the movies on one partition and then made a HD backup of the other partition; I've deleted the movies already. Damn Well I know now. Hey how do I create a partition?

  6. Sorry for taking too long

If you've never done it before I would use a program like "partition magic 8.0"

Otherwise you can use FDISK. But you can mess up your HD if you don't know what your doing.

There's quite a few other programs but normally use PM8 just cause it's simple. You might be able to do it through XP itself but I never tried. There are programs to get those movies you deleted back too
