  1. Im trying to capture a 640x480 avi file in V-Dub, by default, for some reason.... V-Dub sets itself to 352x288... and when I try to change this to the aforementioned size I get the error 'Unsupported format' - I'm using A Win-Tv PCI card running XP with the Microsoft WDM drivers.... Do I need to obtain some other drivers to do this ? - If so, where can I get them from ??

    Ta,

    HEy,

On some graphics cards it is not campatible with the wdm drivers, on Vdub you can press F5 or F6 I believe and it will bring up custom config options. This should let you adjust it to what you wish.

Usually when you go into Preview Mode (default is Overlay Mode) in VirtualDub, you are able to capture @ 640x480.

  4. You've got 2 choices, neither of them great.

The issue is the WDM driver for that card is based on a shoddy reference driver from the bt878 chip manufacturer. That chipset has a lot of great features that are not available using the standard driver.

    So the choices are:
Use the VFW driver, which does work even under XP. Read through the XP docs on the hauppage site. It'll break all the WDM capture apps though, and it's not so stable under XP.

    Use a generic driver:
go to sourceforge and search for btwincap.
It's a generic WDM driver for the BT8xx chips. I had mixed results with it. Capture over the svideo port was much better than the standard driver, including the ability to specify a higher capture resolution. And the sharp control of that chipset can be accessed with this driver. But, I had trouble getting the tuner to work properly.

It's definately worth trying though, just be aware that you may have to do some trial and error installs of the driver before you find the right combination of chipsets and tuner models.

In an ideal world, hauppage would release a driver that fully supports the features of it's hardware.

    yeah, right.
