I don't want to sound sarcastic, but is you're DVD burner actually capable of burning at x8 ????

If you're not sure, just type in the name and model in Google and see what it comes back with, that should tell you if you are unsure

yes his drive is capable of burning 8x media. I would suggest you check that your drive is in DMA mode. Also upgrade to the latest NERO BURN 6.3.1.25 & check this site for a firmware upgrade if one is available.

  6. Well, you got a really off brand type writer there, so you'd have to search the dvd writer topic on left column for what media to use. Course, you could also just ask meritline.com what to use.

Now, if you had bought a major manf dvd writer, this would be real easy to answer.

  7. There are a lot of variables as everyone has pointed out. However, one problem I ran into with multiple DVD writers was the IDE connections. Apparently DVD Writers really don't want to be slaves. The exception seems to be if it is a slave to a HD. I finally broke down and installed an IDE card and made all my burners Masters. They all now work to specs baring bad/unforgiving media. (I haven't played with it enough to confirm but I also suspect that using Cable Select with a burner may not work the best)
