  1. I have a 740,864 KB avi that I want to split in two. I want to split it and then convert to mpg so I can burn onto 2 CD's and hopefully play in DVD player on TV. I have never attempted to split an avi or mpg, so any help getting started would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Bill

Do you have a video editing program like Premiere.

Open you avi in Premiere, find the 73 minute point. CUT it, then export movie , and then repeat the process for the second half.

I will probably be scoffed at for suggesting such a method, but I have not used the other methods suggested here.

However - if you search the forum - a very recent posting directed me to a GUI for TEMPEnc that allows you to stop encoding at a specific point. Sounds good,

  3. The idea with splitting using tmpgenc is to avoid audio synch errors. If you use tmpgenc (they should rename it to something easier to pronounce), check source range and double click. A new window will pop up allowing you to choose the point at which you cut. I've used this method with great results. This way you do all you converting and cutting all at once.
