I've successfully captured from DV to hard drive using WIN DV and converted the files to mpeg2 using TMPG Enc Plus. I've been following the Afonic guide 'How to Capture Video From Your DV Camera and Convert to DVD'. As the guide suggests, in TMPG Enc i have been selecting "Output video and audio as individual elementary streams". I notice that this creates two separate files, one is m2v (video), the other is mp2 (audio). Now the problem. I am using Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3 SE to author and burn the DVD. I can import the m2v video files by selecting 'Add Media' but it will only import the video files. I've tried clicking on 'Enhance Video' and going to 'Audio', and 'Add Audio', but when I select the mp2 file, I get an error message saying 'File Type Mismatch'. I can't see any other way to select and include the mp2 audio file together with the m2v file - as a result, my DVD's are coming out with great pictures, but no sound. Any suggestions?

I tried again, but this time de-selected the option to encode in separate streams. The result was that it created one mpg file, which subsequently burnt to DVD no problems, both audio and video are fine. Is there any particular disadvantage to encoding and burning this way?

Hello,
In Tmpg encoder, there is an option to multiplex video and audio streams, that means merge them together to make a complete Mpeg2 stream, containing both video and audio.
Encoding to elementary streams gives slightly better visual quality. To multiplex, go to the file menu, select Mpeg tools, then simple multiplex, in the combobox select "mpeg2 program VBR" and, in the two boxes below, browse to the video and audio files created with Tmpg.
There is no difference in authoring in both the ways, whether it is a system stream or a multiplexed stream. DVD moviefactory doesn't care as long as it is a compliant DVD file.
