Ok, I think the source of my problem might have stemmed from installing PowerDVD but I'm not 100% sure. Any file I open in VLC (divx, xvid, mpeg) is just a blackscreen with sound, it detects the resolution of the video file and plays sound fine... but thats it. Some files I can open in WMP and play them fine (seems like all divx do, but only some mpegs) but cmon WMP sucks. I uninstalled PowerDVD and reinstalled some codecs but to no avail. Any idea's what I can do here?

Thanks, I tried adjusting the settings like you said and it worked great, I missed the advanced options checkbox when I was trying to try different settings. Thanks for the help, works fine now.
