Hey there,
I recently bought my brother Shrek 2, and I was going to make a backup copy so he did not destroy the original (he's 5) but it seems he's already scratched it badly as when I try to rip it I get a "cylic redundancy error".
I then downloaded Shrek 2, it took about a bloody week but I figured it's not illegal as I own the DVD. After some problems loading into DVD Shrink which I fixed by renaming some files and using ifoedit I found that the only subtitle stream I left on is multi-coloured when playing on a standalone DVD player... Can anyone tell me why and how I might fix this?
Regards,
KD.

Off topic, but have considered trying to fix the original Shrek 2 disc and then use this as the source for your backup. I recently damaged one of my own DVD's quite badly and like you decided to try to back it up and got the same results as you (cylic redundancy error) so I searched the internet on solutions on how to fix the disc. I found this random suggestion, which was to use T-Cut on the disc, to my complete surprise it actually worked and the DVD is now fine in fact i don't need to make a backup any more.

MultiColored? I guess you mean that characters aren't white , and outline not grey as usual?
Well, there's a subtitle color table if you open PGCITI (IIRC) with IfoEdit that controls the available colors of the subs.

Hey,
Thanks for your help. I messed about with ifoedit and with some guidance I managed the copy/paste thing, but the pain in the ass thing was I had no way of checking the DVD's subs until it was burnt, so now I have like 4 backup copies, 3 with greenish-yellow subs and 1 with the usual white...
Anyone know of a proggy that lets you play a .vob set and show subs etc. so you can see what you have while it's on the HDD?
Also, does anyone know WHY subs have the colour variables? I've never seen a DVD that hasn't got white subs... Weird...

Hey,
HOW is this warez?! I OWN THE DVD. I have more than one backup because the first few turned out wrong. They will be destroyed. Now, my question was, is there a program that can play a video_ts directory from the hard drive, showing subtitles etc. without having to first burn it to disc or create an image? Thanks to anyone who can READ and answer correctly.

Some versions of PowerDVD has "play DVD from folder". Mine has "Play file" where I can open the Ifo. Or make an ISO image of your DVD folders, then mount the image with daemon tools - now any soft dvd player can play it as if it was a physical DVD.

I've removed the warning. Kurtis sent me a PM explaining what happened.
It seems Kurtis had bought the DVD in good faith from an online source in the US who swears the DVD has been released. However, the official Shrek2 website says it doesn't come out until Nov. 5. Kurtis bought a bootleg copy, either copied or a stolen original, and didn't know it.
Even though he downloaded it, he would have had a legal right to the movie since he was in possession of the original ...which entitles him to a permanent copy ...had the original been a legal one. Since it's not, Kurtis' copy is an illegal one. But Kurtis posted this thread with the belief that his copy was legal, so he didn't violate the AUP intentionally.
The informal warning I gave him via PM is adequate in this case.
