I've read that many standalone dvd players have trouble playing XSVCDs due to read speed requirements. How about XSVCD format on a DVD disc. Does this make sense? I want to put 5 DVDs onto 1 DVD in XSVCD format.

Make a dvd with lower video size/resolution instead like 352x240 or 352x480 (similar to svcd) and it will be dvd-compliant, www.videohelp.com/dvd#tech

  3. Since the "x" could mean anything whatsoever, it would be necessary for you to describe exactly the characteristics of your video.

5 on 1 will require a dramatic decrease in bitrate, so a decrease in resolution would be recommended. Depends somewhat on the video itself.

You can't burn any variation on VCD or SVCD as those formats (NOT DVD here, but VCD, SVCD, KVCD, XSVCD, etc.) to DVD and have it play in any standalone DVD players that I know of. A PC would be able to play it though. What you want to do is a very bad idea. If you want to squeeze 5 DVDs down into 1 DVD, look into something like KDVD, although I will warn you that the quality will suffer a lot from this.

Well, there are some bit rate limits to CD-R discs, so on many players, you can't have any video format on CD-R greater than about 4500 Kbps or the drive may not spin fast enough to read it.

  5. Sure you can.

720x480 MPG2 with 48k audio would be an XSVCD. I have several. While I have never bothered to burn one on DVD, you certainly could.

There is also software which uses a "header trick" to burn SVCD to DVD, hence the program name, SVCD2DVD.

5 DVD on one disk will most likely look like crap, though.

THanks for the input. VCD looks fine - I ran one through Eazy VCD and it give me the 870MB option which fits 5 titles nicely to a DVD with a touch of Shrink. My next question, I need to edit the start and end points on each original DVD but Eazy only gives me the option to source from disc or evt file. Is it easy to do the initial legwork so I don't have to rip clip & burn in order to use Eazy VCD? I guess its easier than trying to finagle all of the programs Eazy brings together.
