  1. As I am looking to purchase a DVD recorder at or around $150, I have been reading many of the informed and interesting posts on this board. This is my first post here.

I also came across another post yesterday on the AVS Forum which mentions a LiteOn 5100 on sale at Sam’s Club for $139. Does anyone here have any experience with this recorder? Or is this a very new machine?

Also, to the best of your knowledge, if you had to rank (in order of performance) the following players, how would these three stack up?

    Liteon 5100
    ILO DVDRO4
Gateway AR-230 (LiteOn 5001 with fan) for $150

Thank you for any additional recommendations that you can make.

You misread. SAM'S has the 5001, not 5100.

Actually, Sam's has the 5101 not the 5001 or 5100. I have one sitting right here in front of me.

Question is, there seems to be not mention of the 5101 anywhere I can find. What do I have here?

  4. As posted in another thread, I suspect the 5101 is simply a 5001 with a special Model # for warehouse clubs. Manufacturers often do this so that the 5001 sold at CC, BBuy, etc. doesn't get "price-matched" to death by them selling same product at Sam's or Costco.

    Anyone agree?

You may be right but...my setup screen looks nothing like what the 5001/5005 setup screens look like...?
I can't find anywhere to retrieve my serial number to input for firmware.
I actually did find a link to the manual for this model so does that suggest a completly new machine?

Haven't had a chance to use it yet but it kinda sucks buying a machine that has the manufacture's name all over it but no acknowlegement of the product on their website...

Yes it does support 3 hour mode.
After having more chance to read the manual it states:

    HQ (1hr)
    SP (2hrs)
    LP (3hrs)
    EP (4hrs)
    SLP (6hrs)

    LP 3 hour 3.3 Mbps MPEG2 352x480
