  1. I have some rare video on VHS loaned to me at the moment (non-copyrighted stuff) that I would like to transfer to MPEG-2. Reading the forums and looking at all the options I think I may be in a little over my head for what is an important project and I only have access to the tapes for maybe a month or so.

This is probably a long shot, but is there maybe a hobbyist out there local to Memphis TN that would be interested in helping me? The VHS material is of a band that no longer exists and was not filmed much. You can reply here or email NewHombebrew@hotmail.com

Do you have a video capture card in your computer?

  3. No, I don't. I've been reading and reading the guides and forums here trying to figure out what would be best... I don't even have a very good VCR. So I was thinking of getting:

    1) Good Hi-Fi VCR for playback
    2) Digital Videocamera for pass-thru
    3) Video card

I'm admittedly overwhelmed at the possibility. and I thought maybe there's someone nearby who finds this sort of thing fun rather than puzzling that would be kind enough to help me out... once the video is converted to MPEG-2 I can do all the editing and authioring stuff, I have some good practice with that on Vegas/Architect. I'm real good with audio as well, but video is much more complex!

If the Digital Cam supports pass through the only thing you need is a firewire port on your computer, some capture software and the VCR
