  1. i am trying to use a matshita dvd-rom sr-8585f to rip my dvds with dvd dercrypter and a 108 to burn them. Both dirvers the matshita dvd-rom sr-8585f and the pioneer 108 take a while to reach a high buffer rate the marshita rom takes about 5 minutes to get to 5.1x and the pioneer takes about 4 to get to 9x plus. So my first question is why does it take a long time for the buffer to build up. My next question is why does the matshita not reach 8x, i wanted to just do a direct copy from the dvd rom to the dvd rw but i feel that the matshita will under buffer when burning at 8x, people please help im not sure if their is any firmware for the matshita that is compat with windows please any help and advice !

  2. I had one of those, and the drive's ability to read -R media was so bad I replaced it. Until then, I didn't realise just how slow the drive actually was - for about £25 I got a Lite-on 165H and never looked back.

I hate to say this, but I think your drive is showing its age... there are better drives on the market these days and for not much dosh. Personally I would consider retiring it.
