    What options do I have? I have 3 chapters of home video which I recorded & can view perfectly well through my dvd recorder player. However, the problem arises is making copies for everyone else. I understand you have to decrypt before you can burn. I am getting with decrypter Retry Ignore Cancel and for DVD Shrink "cyclic redundancy". I have also tried to copy it onto my hard drive but the response is "Not responding". I give up I have checked my programs with other media and they work work fine so it's not the software. What advice can you offer. I need to be able to ulitmately make copies for other people to enjoy? P.S. I even went as far as reinstalling my system thinking that was the problem! Please help. Thanks in advance

    I just need to add I only have one combo drive to copy to/from I have an 120GB external but that won't help in this case if the source is from one disc to another. Or can you burn to the Hard drive? I tried Image Recorder which I know nothing about and that burned but I don't know what to do with it.

  3. Did you create the DVD?
    if yes then
    no need for DVD decryptor;
    if size < 4.3GB { no need for dvd shrink}

    Copy using Nero or Roxio or RecordNow the DVD as data (not video). You want to copy all the VOB, IFO BUF files as data. Copy the entire VIDEO_TS to tne new DVD (VIDEO_TS folder included).

    Whichever format you use DVD+ or DVD- R make sure other family members can read it.

  4. Is the disc DVD-RAM or recorded as DVD-VR?
    If the disc is -/+ RW then just drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero,etc and burn.

    why do yoiu have to decrypt? decryption is only on copyrighted material. cyclic redudancy is caused by an unreadable disc. give your disc a cleaning and look for scratches

    Yes Copiador, I created the DVD. Partly TV and home video. I cant burn it cos it's a dvd-rw and not a +. That's why I tried decrypt it & shrink it, which it did for a few mins at the first attemp then gave up and never did again. So I can't burn it with Nero if it says it's not compatible with my drive. Moviegeek the disc was recorded in - Video Mode. Any ideas where we go from here? Any further suggestions.

  7. well from what i can tell since your profile is not filled out is your drive can only read + shit and not - shit. so your only solution is to get yourself a drive that reads - or get someone else to do it for you that can read - dvds. but then again i am only guessing because i don't have the info.....

  8. hi
    i hade the same problem
    o k do like this
    first do not record with RW disc only with DVD-R or +
    then when you record your home video do not make 2 record on same disc. don;t stop and start again .
    you can record few home video but do not stop recording. only pause between them.
    if you stop dvd shrink will not read the disc . dvr recorder are not like dvd-video so that way you can't
    used dvd shrink .
    try it .let me know
    bye

    Well I put it down to bad luck all my programs are working (nero 6, shrink, decrypter) as I have tested them with other files. Finally since I can view the play the files thru my dvd player/recorder I decided to dub the disc back to my dvd recorder's hard drive and whoever wants a copy, I'll just put it on a dvd-r in video mode NOT VR mode since the former is compatible with most dvd players and then I'll just dispatch them. Best Solution I can find.

    I found the problem in the end. It wouldn't burn cos it was damaged, even though it played, after 66 mins it went blurry and shakey. There is one VOB on the disk of about 10 mins that I need if that's ok is there anyway I can burn just that? Or better still save the disk with some kind of repair tool?

    I know ricky1756, however I hadn't taken the time to view the whole disk to discover the problem layed 66 mins into it, but some of it is ok, so do you think some of it could be saved somehow?

    lingoguysw5 :

    Yuo can try copying the files from your DVD to your HD, using Windows Explorer. You will not be able to copy the file/files damaged, but all the others should be copied fine.
    After that you can author a new DVD with the un-damaged files.
    For the damaged part yuou can try to repair the DVD (cleaning/polishing).
    Maybe you can try extracting the undamaged part of those files with a tool such as "Sector Extractor". Although it is not longer available in videohelp.com you can try a Google search.

  14. Had the same problem with Decrypter, when I used Smartripper I could extract most of the disk, and if you have chapters, select which chapters you really need, rip only these.
    Good Luck!

    Well that's exactly what I did. Even within the damaged chapter there were still parts that were good, I didn't know how to extract those so I just gave them up for lost. It was a cheap crap Smart buy -RW I bought (not recommeded) to use with my JVC dvd-rw recorder. I spoke to the company and they said you need to get discs made with some sort Dye for more reliable media.

    There are tools that claim to be able to recover lost data on cd/dvd. One of them is called DVD X Rescue. I can't vouch for that one in particular but I know there are other blind sector reader programs that can recover most of the data from a bad disc and some of them may be free. Try a google search.
