    The help section isnt very good with that program.Is it possible to strech out the avi to look at the frames like that or do they have to stay in that window?

    Hello,

    I believe you can resize the preview window and swap the panes if you can't see the whole video. Other than that I'm not exactly sure what your asking.

    I only see one frame at a time.Other app say have 10-15 frames streched out next to each other.

    I just tried to open an avi and said i didnt have the proper codec.I downloaded the one it was asking for and i still get the error. any ideas?it works with some avi's though.

    avi not working-created with ulead-10 gb
    avi working-downloaded 30mb

    not working specs
    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    Field order A
    Microsoft AVI files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
    DV Video Encoder -- type 1

    Virtualdub can only open Type 2 AVIs. You'll need to convert the AVI to Type 2 first, or extract the audio to a WAV and then import it. TMPGEnc will let you extract to a WAV file using the ES (Audio Only) setting.

    You will also need a VFW DV codec, such as the Panasonic DV Codec to open DV files in Virtualdub.

    You could also try the new experimental version 1.60 of Virtualdub which has a built in DV decoder and will handle Type 1 files. You'll still need something like the Panasonic codec to output as a DV file though.
