If I create a TMPGEnc DVD Author project, add a .mpg file to it, create chapter points and menus, then save the project, is there a way that I can move the .mpg file to a different location on my drive, and still be able to use the project file as it was?

I ask this because I often will be watching a DVD I authored and notice things I could improve... a spot that could use a chapter mark, a spelling error on one of the menus, etc. I'd like to be able to go back and edit the project. But I also have a hard time deciding where I should keep my video files in my directory structure. Maybe I'll get a new hard drive and have to move them to that... or maybe I'll want to change the name of the file to something more descriptive. I know the easy answer to this question is to just leave the .mpg alone after creating the project, but it seems like you should be able to specify a new location for a video file in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

I've tried simply opening the project file up in a text editor and replacing all the occurrances of the file path and name with the new path and name, but then the file won't open in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Does anyone know a way around this?

  2. Have you tried opening the file in a hex editor for editing instead?
