HELP (please)! Always used to be able to do this (burn a project on to a DVD from TMPGEnc Author 3) but now it keeps telling me to place a disc in the DVD RW when there's one in there already! I also can't get any CDs to play/burn to hard drive through Media Monkey. Any ideas? My DVD RW is an NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A. Thank you! Sally : (

    Welcome vhsal

Always used to be able to do this
Has to be the number 1 statement out there.

Secondly, what is the media brand being used ?

Next step ... Download imgburn , install, and do a basic test burn to cd or dvd ... any file will do, it's just a test.

Should imgburn also return an error it will be either a media issue or the dvd burner is on its way out (replace)

Only media I use is verbatim's ... very rare if there's an issue.

    Thanks for this, most appreciated!

I use Taiyo Yuden + JVC Premium Grade which seem spot on!

I've downloaded imgburn & tested it out by inserting both a CD & a DVD & it says "medium not present", I think it must be the burner then?!

Am now considering buying a new laptop!!

That NEC has to have some age on it - I've got three in a duplicator tower because I pulled them from desktop duty (went SATA several years ago). If you've been using that drive - and it's alone in the machine: You've gotten your money's worth.

With drives being cheap these days, it's not an expensive fix.

There was a nice Samsung at the egg for $22, LG and others started there and went up.

About 10 IDE model drives available.
