I've tried a couple of weeks to make a copy of an importent tape. The problem is that it's recoreded on Digital 8, NTSC and LP and my camera is PAL.

I can play the tape and get picture on the camera display and on the TV if i connect it with SCART.

I tried first to record it via FireWire but I don't get any picture exept distortion. I tried Premiere Pro, Virtual Dub and Windows Movie maker. I tried different settings for the projects, NTSC, PAL.

I get the same problem if I try to dub it to a VCR via SCART. I can see it perfectly on the TV but the recording just show distortion.

Also tried different settings for Playback NTSC/PAL on my video camera (DCR-TR8100E). For information I've switched on DV-IN on the camera that it didn't have from start.

I have plan to try to capture with an analog capture card but haven't had time yet.

Do anyone have any other tips or suggestion how I can get my NTSC tape to my computer or VCR?

Look up the yellow pages for someone who does format transfers and get them to dub it from NTSC to PAL. It shouldn't cost much and will save you wasting more time.

  4. Your camera probably supports what's called NTSC playback, but this is not the same as NTSC to PAL conversion.
As the name suggests, NTSC playback only converts the signal for playback or display on your TV, but does not really convert the signal into PAL for copying, capturing, etc.
So your only options are to find someone with a real NTSC camcorder or someone who has equipment to convert the NTSC tape into PAL

I been hunting for a NTSC camera but only been able to find HI8. Anyway I found a few videostudios that I'll try to call and see if they can help.

If anyone knows... would a capture card be able to handle both NTSC and PAL or are they specific to handle just one of the two? I have the possibility to try on a ATI Radeon 7700 Pro, but time hasn't allowed me yet. I don't need to convert it to PAL, I'll be happy having it as a NTSC DVD.
