  1. I was just thinking...
I would like to test some of the DVD players at the store (Walmart, Kmart, Circuit City...etc).
Could I walk in with a VCD, SVCD & maybe a MP3 CD and test it on a DVD player? I mean it would be on a CD-R and have Movies like The Matrix and Fast and the Furious. Do you think the store people would care?
I really want to make sure whatever DVD player i buy supports the media i want to play and at Good Quality.

    What are your thoughts?
...am i just crazy or have you tried this?

Sure, I've done that. I took a VCD and SVCD burned onto 2 CD-RW's to Radio Shack and played them at the store to make sure they worked before I bought my player. I would assume any store hoping to sell you a DVD player would be willing to demo their product. If not, go elsewhere and buy it.

  3. You want compatibility then buy a Pioneer 535 or 503 DVD Player. They can play VCD and SVCD no problems. I have incoded over 200 movies at differentsetting from VCD 1150 bit rate standard to VCD varible bitrate 2 pass and my latest is SVCD using DVD2SVCD and Cinema Craft Encoder 2.5. That is the best possible way to encode a dvd even with the audio set at 48000hz the pitcure and sound is awesome. And they are pretty cheap too.
One draw back is it can not play MP3 but who cares about that if you can get the best picture qaulity possible.
Don't buy a Panasonic. They suck for playing SVCD's They skip and stutter when playing a SVCD.

  4. I've heard a lot of good things about Pioneer, but i just can't find a place that sells them where i live.
I have a Walmart, Kmart, Circuit City, Radio Shack, Office Depot and that's about it. The only Pioneer I've manage to find is a 333. Since buying online isn't a option for me andybody know of another place to find a pioneer.
