I was always wondering what happens to them, are they just thrown away or sent back to company? what do the company do with them?

I guess that would vary from store to store but I would assume that they would get sent back so that they could get credit for the defect.
I ran a retail business for years and some merchandise I could just destroy and take a chargeback on the manufacture while other merchandise I had to send back to the manufacturer to receive my credit.
Some manufacturers even offered damage allowances as an extra discount off my invoices. In those cases when faulty items were returned I just took the loss and destroyed the merchandise after refunding the customer.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again")
