    when im in re-author mode, there is a number directly across from the compression settings box. its a number on the right handside, below the green bar on top which tells you if you surpassed the dvd capacity. can anyone tell me what that is?

    i hope im not being confusing. heres a picture of the number im talking about. its the numebr that says 3,313MB

    That is the size of the selected part of the DVD after compression. This is useful when you need to fit a DVD-9 worth of information on a DVD-5 disc.

    That is simply the output size of the stream your working with given your current settigns. For instance, set it to custom compression and lower the slider for smaller output and you will see the 3133MB decrease signifing that you output size is getting smaller. In that pic you have Auto compression selected and it;'s telling you that the output for that sections (most likely the main movie section) will be 3133MB after shrinking.

    i thought that might have been it, but then what does the number on top of the green bar mean? it is a higher number. also, im only taking the movie, so it needs no compression.

    The number at the top is for the entire disc, in that pic DVD Shrink is in full disc mode. If you just want the film you will have to use re-author mode.
