I am trying to back up W. Wing Season 2 DVD #4. I get the following error on DVD Decrypter:
I/O Error
Devicewhat ever I am using)
ScsiStatus:0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB:28 00 00 27 07 10 00 00 01 00
Interpretation:Read(10) - Sector: 2557712
Sense Area:F0 00 03 00 27 07 10 0A 00 00 00 00 11 05 00 00 00 00
Interpretation:L-EC Uncorrectable Error
I have tried using 4 other DVD-ROM's on 3 different computers and the DVD burner and always gets the same error. I have also tried 3 other DVD's of the same (WW Season 2 DVD 4). It is always at VTS_01_5.VOB. The rest of the DVD reads fine. I also tried DVD Decrypter in the ISO mode and I get an error there also. I also get errors when using DVD Shrink relating to the same area.
Any ideas on what to do?
TIA

OK, went to a friends house and used his DVD-ROM and Burner and again got the same results. So I am baffled by this one.
Any help? -
No scratches or fingerprints. That is why I used 3 seperate DVD's, They all can't be scratched is the exact same place. It always crashed at Sector: 2557712 on each DVD.
I believe that this maybe a manufacture defect, not noticeable during regular playback or if it is it's not much.
Anyone else had any luck backing this DVD up? -
try using a older version of DVD SHRINK and DECRYPTER. i backed up the same west wing and had a problem with one of the discs not sure which one. i just used a older version of DVD SHRINK & DECRYPTER. it worked like a charm. here's a link for older versions of DVD SHRINK.

budz, I will try an older version when I get home tonight. Thanks for the input. -
I'm still curious about the legality of renting a movie you own simply for backing it up. This would be handy especially if yours becomes completely unplayable. I know I read something about this recently, but I can't remember where.

You could try Smartripper; it seems less susceptible to errors. You could also change the settings in decrypter to overlook errors.

I tried smartripper last night and it had the same problem. But I will try to set Decrypter to overlook errors, worst case is if can't backup that one VOB, I will have to try and put a blank VOB in is place. I tried to burn without that VOB and it just gave me errors on burning without it.
Thanks. -
OK, I got it to work. I used DVD Decrypter and set it to overlook errors. I watched and it still tried 20 times and then just continued on. The VOB ended up being one third the size of the others but it plays just fine. Strange...
Thanks to all who replied and helped.
A good lesson learned for all...
