  1. Hello all,

I am requesting your expertise again. So here is the situation, I was previously happily watching TV and capturing TV using my ati 9800 pro all in wonder card. After upgrading the multimedia centre to 9.1 I no longer get any more audio. This is ONLY for tv sound. Normal sound from file player etc is ok. I then thought I would try to uninstall everything and that went ok. I then installed the latest multimedia centre to 9.02 from the web and briefly I was able to get some sound but after I exitted from the app. and checked the file player to see if that was working (and it was) and re-launched TV, I again get no sound from the tv portion. Any ideas here?
By the way, the cable connection to the sound card is fine as well (meaning I did not plug it in the wrong location, checked this MULTIPLE times)

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,

Check your audio control panel. Make sure your line in or aux in is turned on. If the sound goes directly to your capture card make sure it's firmly plugged in. Also, try unselecting your microphone volume on your recording sound option screen.

Keep fooling with your sound panel and you should be able to regain your tv sound. Good luck.

  3. To pinpoint the problem try plugging the speaker connection (normally plugged into the front right/left of the audio card) directly into the audio out connection of the capture card. If you get audio that way then you know the card is outputting audio and you have the settings of the audio card screwed up. If you don't get audio then there is something screwed up with the capture card not outputting audio to the audio card. (Make sure your speakers are on btw)

No insult intended, but have you checked the mute button? Either on the ATI screen or in the sound control panel. I can't duplicate it now but at one time I had somehow managed to hide one of the elements in the sound panel off screen and had fits trying to find out what was wrong with my set up. I had too many devices showing and pushed one off screen or had resized the window or something so silly that it took a week to fix

That's a good tip, I'll have to file that one away in the memory bank.

  6. sigh... some good tips and still no luck.
I tried to plug in the speaker directly to the ati 9800 AIW and still no sound. It was working before argh...
The sound card is working fine. It works for everything else.
I then tried a separate tv capture card and that (vid and sound) works. I hope to dear god that it is not the AIW but am worried.
This was working, if I could just find the old multimedia centre I am wondering if that would do the trick...
any more opinions/suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks so much.

If your not getting sound by directly plugging the audio ouput into the speakers then you have the AIW sound settings wrong most likley. Open mmc and turn on the TV. Go into the configuration and find the Sound configuration. It's been a while since I used it but there's a few choices for how you output the sound.

  8. I have tried all the options within the MMC. Still nothing. Any more tips. I am sure it HAS to be a setting within the MMC but none of them work? I just used the same line-in that I always used for the "what I hear".
Any more ideas would be appreciated... sorry for the troubles.

go thru the set up again of the program.. when you get to the sound section try each option.. i have mine set to aux but you may have it on any other one.. make sure that all your sound options are on and hte vol is set to a hearable level.. when you get to the sound setup section.. just click each one then hit ok. you do not need to go past that section.. if after you click one you still dont hear anything try another.. jsut make sure that all your volumes are up enough to hear.. the mmc, the vol control pannel spekers etc..

in the volume control pannel you can go to options/ playback and you will see a box with different devices check them all. your pannel will be alot bigger.. make sure thay all the vols are up. do the same for undre recording.. BUT mute the MIC (trust me on this one lol)

ati says to use their break out cable to connect the audio out of th evid card to teh aux in on the sound card from the outside of the caomputer.. i have mine set up that way and i also have the little grey wire going from the audio out on the board to the aux in on the sound card and it works bot ways for me.. just try hooking up both and see if that helps.

Good luck.. and im sure that its not the card.. just a setting.. when you reinstall mmc things get changed and reset.. youll get it.. just dont give up

P.S. i dont mean to reinstall the whole program. i mean run through the setup again. if your not sure what i mean. its an option under the settings/control pannel for mmc...

I don't think it's MMC. I think you've got something plugged in wrong, but with so many options, it's hard to tell. I think all of them have already been said.

  11. No offence, I KNOW I did not plug anything in wrong. After upgrading to MMC 9.02 it stopped working. I checked the connections multiple times. I am currently trying what Heywould suggested. Hoping for the best...
I don't remember having to mute the mic but hey, anything sounds good right about now.

    Yellowman:
I think that your problem is in your setting(or at least I hope it is) Try going to the ATI TV startup screen. Make sure that the mute button is off(no insult, I know that you are getting tired of this) If this is not the problem click on the Set up button and go to the tv tuner tab, click on the details button under channel name and see what the check boxes under channel specific settings look like. Look at every ATI option box that you can find. What is your TV signal source Ant, Cab, VCR, or what? Are you sure that the sound signal is getting to your pc? I love ATI but then again I am a masochist that like puzzles.
