I have always used DVDx2.2 with divx 4.12 to back up my dvds to divx. However I used Divx 5.1 just to see how much better it would make the divx files look. And there is a noticeable difference. But I use the slowest settings where it says "Performance/Quality" for divx 4.12 and I could do a widescreen movie in about 4 hours.
But if I use the slowest settings with Divx 5.1 it would take a LOT longer. I was wondering if there is a way to make it go faster but without using the "Standard" setting or the "Fastest".
Or should I use some other method to encode? Thanks.

The "standard" setting on DivX 5.1 is directly equivelant to the "slowest" setting on DivX 5.0.x and below. Check out their user guide:
