  1. I have a divx video (anime video to be precise) with a subtitle then I converted a it to VCD (using tpmgenc). Then after it was converted I burned it to a CD. When it was finished I tried to play it on my PC using WinDVD and it works well all the contents in the screen is viewable.

Then I tried it out on my VCD player. what happened is that the video can be played but the subtitles are not completely displayed on the TV screen. The subtitles are only displayed half. Does anyone out there encountered this problem? Does anyone have a solution on this? Hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

  2. Sounds like that "viewable area" thing for TVs. I have an especially bad one in the kids' room. Try searching "TV viewable area" or something like that...

  3. Is there anyway we can fix this problem? I am converting a lot of these because they are taking too much space in my harddrive and I need to clean it up. Any sugestions?

  4. -the subtitles getting cut off the screen is due to the overscan on your tv. when you're converting the avi, you need to adjust for overscan.

what's the size of the avi that you're trying to convert?

use gspot to determine the aspect ratio of the avi and post it here.

You basically need to put a 16 pixel border around your video before (or during) conversion.

  13. Hey,
I used to resize my movies for overscan in TMPG while I encoded. I'm not saying that it's the best method, but I'll tell you what to do.

    If you use the Wizard:
    1. select the appropriate VCD template
    2. load your video into TMPG.
    3. on the following page, check the box beside Clip Frame and press the Setting button
    4. press the Arrange setting button
    5. under video arrange method, select Center (custom size)
    6. set the horizontal and vertical to about 90% of a traditional VCD size (317x216 NTSC, 317X260 PAL)
    7. press OK and finish as usual

Depending on your TV, you may need to make the custom size even smaller (85% or less).

Hope that gets you where you want. Enjoy.
    Happy to be here.
