I've tried just burning mpeg's on a blank cd-r, and my dvd player will not read it. I'd like to know how to do this, so any help will be *greatly* appreciated. Here's some info about what I have to work with:
CD burning software:
Adaptec Easy CD Creator ver. 3.5
DVD player:
Blaupunkt dvd-me1, claims to play vcd's and svcd's
BTW, i'm a total retard about this, so please help me.

...I'm assuming you burned your MPEGs as VCD.
Your DVD player might claim to play VCDs and SVCDs, but the capability to read CDRs and/or CDRW is more of the question now. Check the DVD Players compatibility list on the left to find out. My DVD player (Panasonic) says it can play VCDs, and no doubt about that, on commercial VCDs. But she cannot read CDRs and I'm stuck on using CDRWs.

You may be assuming too much. All I did was burn the mpeg files on to the cd-r. Nothing more nothing less. Like I said, i'm a total idiot about this, so please elaborate on what you said.
Thanks

try this link:

Please look at the how to sections first before posting a problem cuze it might get solved by reading the guides

Actually i've looked at that before, and i've read the guides here through and through. It's just not clicking.
BTW - That guide is for a different version of the easy cd creator. Mine doesn't have special way to burn mpegs. -
Bingo!...that is the problem....you cant throw an mpeg onto a cdr and expect your dvd player to understand it...get nero and use the wizzard. (s)VCD has to be burned a "special" way.

...so you burned the CDs as just Data CD. And that's the problem right there.
If your EasyCD does not have any way of burning VideoCDs, then you probably have the 'lite' version (usually comes bundled with a burner). I suggest you download the demo version of Nero, which has 'everything' on it. You should see a VideoCD option in their menu. This link is probably what you need.

But then, you should not rule out the possiblity of your player not reading a CDR, so again, check the DVD players list on the left.

jtor and surfisher: You guys nailed it, I just burnt a successful vcd. I am forever in your debt, thank you so much!

Did you use the version that came with your burner? If so, it is probably the "lite" version which doesn't have the capability to burn VCD's... I have The same program, only version 4.05 but it's "lite". You can either pay to get the upgrades or download VCDEasy...
Being new myself, I thought you could just burn the files over like you would an MP3... Wrong answer... You live and learn... you need to burn em as a VCD... The files also need to be converted to MPEG format.
Happy Thanksgiving
Hope This helps,
James

One way to check if your dvd player will play cdr, is to burn a music cd and see if you can play it in your player.
