  1. Hi everyone,

I had a question about converting multiple avi's to dvd. I am new to converting formats, I have been successful with easier tasks, converting an avi source to dvd with no subtitles or menus. I was wondering how I would go about creating a dvd from over 30 avi's? I would like to fit as many of the avi's on a disk without going below a video bitrate of 3000 kbps, if this is at all possible.

I am not sure if I can append the segments with virtualdub or not? These avi's are of varying framerates and aspect ratios. Some have framerates of 23.976 and others have 29.970 and one of them has a framerate of 19.98!? These are reported by Gspot.

The aspect ratios are either 1.33:1 or 1.22:1 so I am not sure what I should do with these two different sizes? I would like a final aspect ratio of 4:3 if I could.

I have tried learning how to use avisynth, it's tough but I am getting used to it. As for the encoder, I use CCE 2.67 So if someone could give me a solution using these tools I would appreciate it.

I have looked at several of the guides on this site but I haven't found anything about putting multiple avi's of varying stats on one dvd, maybe I missed it?

If anyone could help me (the n00b) I would be very grateful.

There are too many questions here. First you need to convert to MPEG, 2 or 1, depending on the quality of your vids.

Framerate and aspect ratio is another whole problem. You should be able to author differing framerates and aspect ratios as separate chapters with the authoring software.

Instead of that, I would convert them to the same framerate, aspect ratio, but it won't be easy. You will probably have to letterbox some to get a consistent format. Then it would be simple enough to put them in a DVD.

I know of no easy method to achieve what you want to do, especially with varying framerates, aspect ratios and formats.

  3. Thanks for the reply redwudz!

So if I understand you right, the best way to go about this is to go through each avi one by one and convert them to a mpg format, making them the same as all the rest (aspect ratios, frame rate, etc)? What do I do with the 19.98 fps avi, use pulldown? I wish there was an easier way to go about this...

If anyone else has any suggestions please don't hesitate to post.
