  1. Hi,

I am brand new to this, so here goes.

I bought a NEC 2510A burner and tried backing up some of my DVD's using DVDSHRINK 3.2 onto Datawrite greytops at 8 speed, when I played them back they all started stuttering 10 mins from the end of the film on my SONY DAV-S550 standalone player. I then updated the firmware from the NEC website, this has improved the stutterng to an almost watchable level, but it isn't perfect.

When I burn at 4 speed the problem is sorted and when I play the 'bad' copies on another standalone player or a dvd rom drive they playback ok.

DMA is enabled on both IDE channels and I am using the correct IDE 80 pin cable.

Am I stuck at burning at 4x or is there something else I can try?

    Thanks for looking!

I see that you are new member here, this is your very first post, so first of all, welcome to the forums!

Secondly, if you have a problem with a specific media, it is always a good idea to specifically list the media code. You can obtain that information from DvdInfoPro or DvdIdentifier.

It might help also, if you mentioned what version of the firmware that you are presently using for your Nec 2510.

The Nec 2500/2510 is known for its excellent writing quality, but if your settop player works better when you write the discs at 4x, then I would suggest you continue to do so.

  3. Hi,

    thanks for the welcome.

    The Mediacode is FUJIFILM03 - DVD-R
    The firmware revision is 2.16

I would like to backup these dvd's at 8X if possible, after all, it is supposed to write at 8X.

Any tips or other media to try would be appreciated.

I was also wondering if I used one of the hacked firmware revisions that I've seen mentioned in these forums, would that help me?

    Thanks
