    Hello,

    http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/31/technology/apple.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes

Man, I don't think I'd like having the processor AND the monitor built together. What if the monitor dies??? You'd be without your computer while getting it fixed.

Never been a mac fan, not enough software or games to make it worth even considering.

And don't tell me it's better than windows. I'm using Windows 2000 and haven't had but 1 or 2 problems with it.

The mac is more secure through obscurity.

Apple is a pioneer in the computing world, but I still prefer a pc.

The only Apple product I am familiar with is the iPod. Do they try and rape you price wise with Mac computers the same way they try to with iPods?

  9. There was a show on here in the UK a few weeks back, the Gadget Show.
They compared a top of the line MAC G4 and a Top of the line PC. They then did some bench test on the two. Frame rate on a game, colourisation of a photo, encoding of an mp3, the PC came out on top in all the tests.

They then decided to hurl the two machines out of a 1st floor window onto a concrete floor to see which could be repaired easiest. Very scientific I know. Apart from a pretty battered case the only thing screwed on the PC was the motherboard. So £65 and an hour later the PC was up and running again. They could not get a new mac motherboard for 2 weeks and it was going to cost £400 from an authorised MAC distributor.

I figure eventually everyone will figure out that mac bashing is kinda like a mullet. Just makes ya look stupid... but maybe not.

As far as what to do with a flowerpower imac, I suggest ebay, or take thayne's advice and put a huge drive in it so it becomes a file server.

Where I work our computers are G3

Yep, that's me....400 mhz, 32 mb RAM...open notepad and solitate and run out of RAM 4 GB HD.

I got so irritated about it that I use my personal laptop at school...2.2 AMD, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB HD, DVD/CD burner combo drive, with both modem and network ports.

Perhaps it was a G5 I really dont remember. I know nothing about macs. They did say that they were comparable top of the line machines. So I guess it must have been a G5. The thing that surprised me most was the cost of a new motherboard.

And people wonder why they prefer the pc more.....

    5,000 is ridiculous.

You could build a opteron system cheaper than that.

As I've said before. If you want to compare a Powermac G5s price, reguardless of what you think of its performance, then you must compare it to a dual Opteron system inside one of the more expensive Aluminum cases.

When you consider that it kills alot of the exces price... of course, you have to consider the 200 box it ships in also...

My dual G5 1.8ghz cost me $2500 after tax and a very nice extended warranty. Expensive? Hell yes. A sweet computer? Hell yes. I'll go though 2 PCs before I give serious thoughts to upgrading the mac.

The only complaint I have with apple is they ARE expensive and they are miserly with RAM and video cards even on their Powermac (I.E. Badassed Pro desktop mac)

And when its over? I'll sell the G5 off for more then any 3 "decent" PCs you built today.
