You can compare powerbook prices with comperable dell's and in some cases the mac is cheaper and gives you more bang for the buck.

And the Inspiron XPS loses points for fake coolness instead of the real thing.
Example:
Reaction to dell: "hey you got one of those dells... those are pretty sweet"
Reaction to Mac: "HEY YOU GOT A POWERBOOK! I've always wanted one"
That alone shows you just how much people think of apples. I mean ALOT of people love them, and as long as they've been around I'm petty sure its not a fad, so maybe more people should consider if there is something there they are missing. -
I'd take a powerbook over a dell Inspiron any day!

Notebooks are different, theres not a lot you can do with them whether you choose MAC or PC. But as I always build my own desktop PC's then mac is just not an option.
-
Not to say that I'd never buy one, but not because I felt I needed it. I can't think of anything that I'd need to do on a Mac that I can't do on any of my PCs.

I have a test before I graduate.
I have to be able to peel an apple.

I think what I dislike most about Macs is that they're not very open.

Actually it would have been interesting. Then Mac OS would have had to be x86 compatible.

That would be cool! OSX is way better than windows or linux and it would be awesome to be able to run it on my PC'sOriginally Posted by ViRaL1"Terminated!" :firing:

The first versions of what became OSX (or a predecessor) actually did run on x86 machines.

That was darwin, far from what OSX became and would only run on a very limited number of x86 PC'sOriginally Posted by Conquest10"Terminated!" :firing:

If you think M$ is scared of Linux, just imagine if they really had to compete with Apple for the same desktops. :P

OSX is unix based. Linux is also unix based. They are pretty much the same thing.Originally Posted by thayne

I bet M$ bought them off. OSX would destroy windows if it were available on x86 PC'sOriginally Posted by ViRaL1"Terminated!" :firing:

I wouldn't say it was better. Its nicer to look at. Expose' is a neat feature. But I don't really see how I would use that. Oh wait, on a Mac you don't have a taskbar like on Windows so it is really useful.Originally Posted by thayneHis name was MackemX

Bah ha ha ha! That's funny. They are nothing alike! The only thing similar is they are both operating systems. Windows is more like OSX than linux is...Originally Posted by gitreel

You're a puppet of the SCO Machine aren't you?Originally Posted by gitreel

I agree with you overall, but I believe the average user would take to MacOS a lot faster than they would to Linux.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
No it was Apple Rhapsody. That was the early development version of OSX.Originally Posted by thayneHis name was MackemX

no, the dual 2.5 is $3000. dual 2.0 is $2500. if you BTO you can shave off about $130 more.Originally Posted by Conquest10

No I am not a puppet of SCO. I think Darl Mcbride does not have a leg to stand on.Originally Posted by ViRaL1

Would you like to explain this:Originally Posted by thayne

Saying linux is based on unix isn't really accurate either. Linux is Linux, it's unix like and has some unix code (according to SCO anyway) but it's not unix. I think windows has more unix code than linux does.
