If you are burning to a 4.7GB DVDR, then yes it is, from a technical aspect. If you are burning a DVD-9 to a DL, then it is a straight copy, removing the CSS encryption.

What it does in the 4.7GB case is it transcodes. In theory, it works out where it can reduce the stored information for particular scenes without diminishing
the viewing quality. Whether you can notice the difference between this and the original is an individual perception.

The easiest way would be for you to try a backup with DVDShrink. I have probably over-emphasised the changes it makes to the original.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The transcoding only occurs where a title needs to be reduced in size, and only affects the video track. DVD Shrink can remove audio tracks, but it cannot change them. By removing audio that you do not require (other languages, commentaries, LPCM or Dolby PL versions etc) you may find you can get the size down to a point where no compression is required at all.

Summary - if it won't fit on a single layer disk, the video will be transcoded (recompressed) to fit. Audio will not be affected.
