How much time should it normally take to convert a file from AVI to VCD? A friend of mine converted a 700MB file using a Pentium Pro in about an hour. I'm using a P3 500. So far every program I've used takes at least 2-4 hours to do the conversion. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

Sounds about right for a 500 MHz machine.
BTW, the software that you use and the settings will make a difference."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
Not that the P Pro wasn't a bit ahead of it's time, but they maxed out at 200MHz. 2 to 4 times slower than that seems a bit off. Try using the same software. Drive setup also makes a difference. Sometimes going from one drive to another is faster than converting a file and storing it on the same drive.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
