I have several VIDEO_TS folders that I copied to my hard drive from DVD-RWs that I used on my JVC DR-M10 to capture some home videos.

When I tell Power DVD to play DVD file from hard the drive, it starts up and stops. Yet, if I insert the DVD-RW into my DVD drive, Power DVD plays it fine.

    This doesn't make sense.

    Help!

in my experience you have to decrypt them when you rip them to your hard drive, not just copy the files straight over.

look for an app like smartripper

if the files are on dvdrw, then there is no need to decrypt the files. decrypting is only for copying css potected files. copying files across should work just fine.

maybe there was an error in copying the files from the dvdrw to the hard drive, if some file is missing, you would usually have this problem. try to copy the files across again, and see if the problem still presists.

what version of powerdvd are you using?

I'm using PowerDVD 5. I tell it to play video files on the hard drive but it won't. I have to go to the specific VOB file then it plays it.

However, if I re-author the files with TMPGEnc DVD Author (I trim out the commercials), then PowerDVD will start at the beginning and play them fine.

    Hello,

I have version 4 and it has a dvd video option (not media file mode). It looks for the video.ts file (I think thats it). It looks for the master dvd file that links the vobs. Try that option.

i am also using powerdvd 5

hoe are you trying to play the files. you need to select "play dvd from hard drive" mode in powerdvd, and should be given the option of selecting the location of the dvd video folder.
