  1. So I install this codec, and it works fine with VirtualDub.

In ScenalyzerLive, I thought I could change to the Panasonic DV Codec, but apparently I can't , all it shows is the microsoft one, is this normal?

But then I go to MainConcept and see it in the drop down list and select it there.
Well, when I try to capture, MainConcept just crashes.

Then recently, I transferred some video clips from my canon powershot digital camera (it takes pics and short clips, it's not a digital video recorder), and windows media player couldn't play ANY *.avi that was transferred from the camera. I looked at properties and it was using the panasonic codec!

Using GraphEdit, when I first open the file is uses the MJPEG decompressor and can play the file. If I open the file again or any other avi file from the camera, it switches to an AVI decompressor and is unable to play.... what's going on ?

Anyone know how to fix this? If not, how do you completely un-install this codec? I don't mind getting into the registry, I just don't know what I would need to change.

I've only found a way to temporarily disable the codec, by going to the registry and renaming the file.

For reference, these are the directions I followed from a site:

Panasonic DV codec PDVCODEC.DLL crashes or causes problems with some applications (Media Studio Pro). You can disable it temporary with Windows Regedit tool.
    + Open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
    + Search for value vidc.dvsd
    + Rename vidc.dvsd to xvidc.dvsd
+ Now when you open AVI files PDVCODEC.DLL is not used. No reboot needed.
+ To get PDVCODEC.DLL back just rename xvidc.dvsd back to vidc.dvsd

  2. To add some info, only *.avi from the camera for some reason use the Panasonic DV Codec, while other *.avi files that are in Xvid, DivX, etc. play fine.

So I guess no one knows lol, so here just a sum up of my questions:

    1) Anyone know how to fix my problem?

    2) If not, how to un-install Panasonic DV Codec?

I would think if I look at the INF file that came with it , that would help, but I have no clue what to delete.

Use vcswap with the link below. Panasonic codec is rgb and I have no use for it since i dont use tmpgenc and it really is not generally needed. Most video is in the yuy colorspace so I use the canopus codec exclusively.

Open the INF file with notepad and you will see a line:

    HKLM,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResourc es\icm\vidc.dvsd,Driver,,pdvcodec.dll

This corresponds to the entries in the Windows registry for the Panasonic DV Codec. HKLM stands for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Open regedit and just navigate to the line that has vidc.dvsd and delete it. Close regedit. Then reboot. If you want to reinstall the codec, just go back to the INF file and right click the file in explorer and then click Install.

Note: If you are not comfortable editing the registry, don't do it. You can really mess your PC up if you do something wrong (and don't blame me ).
