Sometimes I just want to write a few hundred megabytes of data to a DVD-RW as a test. I find, however, that my DVD writer (which does DVD-RW at 2x) still takes about 8 minutes to finish, with the vast majority of this time spent doing the leadout.
Now, I *think* that there is some kind of technical specification that says for maximum compatibility, you shouldn't write less than 1 Gb of data to a DVD, and so if you are only writing a 200 Mb data file, then the lead-out will have to be huge in order to make up for it...this would explain the phenomenon that I am seeing.
Can someone out there clarify this a bit. And if anyone knows how to disable this behavior in Nero, that would be great!

Ah Hah! Found it!
If you go to Recorder -> Choose Recorder, then click the "Options" button, there will be a checkbox for "DVD High Compatibility Mode"
I knew I had seen something like this before in some burning application....
You know, I saw some other posts in this forum from other people complaining about lead-out times....yet no one ever mentioned this...
I'm sure this will make a huge difference. I just burned 50 Mb to a DVD-RW (before I found the checkbox) and timed it -- it took 31 seconds to do the lead-in and write the data, but it took a little over 6 minutes to write the lead-out! -
Using Nero Express, when you get to the "Final Burn Settings" screen where it lists the recorders available, there's an "Options" box next to it. Click that box, a window will pop up with a checkbox at the bottom which says: "DVD high compatibility mode (at least 1GB will be written)". I would assume if you uncheck that box then your problem should be solved.
Haven't figured out how to do it on the full version of Nero yet. -
DVD high compatibility mode should always be used

I think I've seen this 'High Compatibility Mode' in B's Recorder before, too...
