  1. I have quite a few clips that I want to put on a DVD. They are all xvid's and all around 400mb's.

I use TMPGEPlus and TMPGE DVD Author but it will not let me put any more than 2 clips onto one dvd.

Surely there is a way of converting them so I can fit at least 4 if not more onto DVD without losing quality.

I'm quite happy to learn how to use new freeware tools.

I have spent quite a few hours searching this site for answers and I have probally missed the answer so if I have then sorry, but some help would be really great.

  2. Lower the bitrate when encoding, and avoid using PCM audio, then you can fit 4 eps at high quality in 1 dvd. TMPGEnc let you set the bitrate if you click the settings button then go to the video tab. To calculate what bitrate to use, go to www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
If you want more than 4 clips on one dvd i would change the encoder, tmpgenc is a bit weak at low bitrates.

What encoder would you surgest for doing more than 4 eps on 1 dvd.

  4. With CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder) and VBR i was satisfied with the quality for 6 eps per DVD if using half D1 resolution, for widescreen in 720x480/576 5 eps was enough. But, i dont know if the difference would be very noticeable in your case, you could give it a try with tmpgenc and see if you like it.

  5. Note that MPEG 4 encoding is more space efficient than MPEG 2 so you will lose quality if you try to put the same amount (timewise) on a DVD. For example, you could easily put 10 of your 400 MB Xvid files on a data disk. But if you convert them to MPEG 2 at a low enough bitrate to fit all 10 on one DVD you'll lose video quality. You're usually looking at about 1/2 to 1/3 the running time for a movie DVD (ie, 3 to 5 of your files).
