    Hi,

I hope this is not off-topic here...

I don't know exactly what gspot does when scanning codecs, and version 2.21 works fine and so did 2.5 until last night.

Now, both 2.5b6 and 2.5b8 start scanning the codecs on my system, and after about 1/3 it freezes. Most of the time I get the timeout message and can quit normally.

2.21 does not show anything wrong - it did show an unregistered codec, and I manually removed all related entries in the registry. Now it is gone in 2.21, but 2.5 still freezes.

Does anyone know what gspot actually does exactly while scanning ? If it freezes because of a missing file, I could probably find out myself...

    Any thoughts ?

    Thanks!

    cu

    Hello,
You could try avicodec, I think that does exactly the same thing as gspot (codec identification).

P.S. If avicodec does the same thing you MIGHT be missing a file.

Thanks, I'll try it and see what happens...

I have noticed another problem on my PC, and that might be connected.

gSpot 2.5 is capable of detecting MPEG while the old one isn't, and while encoding some TV captures (the opening of our new store ) I had constant blue screens with three seperate MPEG encoder programs...

I un- and re-installed PowerDVD, and now I am trying again, so hopefully it will work this time, then gSpot may work again, too.

    Again, thanks a lot!
