Capmaster's not my first user name here

It's been six months now and I presume it's OK to mention.

I used to have another user name here until February. In fact, I had been lurking here for ages before I ever registered, starting around July 2002 when I first got into the hobby. I still remember Silky31. You know him as Will Hay, our treasurer

Well, last Feb. I was merrily posting along, working on my post whoring, but actually spending a lot of time in the non-OT forums too. I was completely open about my first name, and I even linked my home page in my profile, which contains a lot of personal information, like where I work, about where I live in the city, background information, etc. I was naive and thought we were all friends here. I was quickly proven wrong.

Apparently my humor offended someone here who lives in my city. He PM'ed me, flaming me about something he read on my web page. I flamed him back, sparing no venom. I must have hit a nreve,and he apparently didn't like my sarcasm in my posts either (Will Hay was my idol then ), since he tracked me down, called me at work once making death threats against me and my family, naming my address and the names of my kids and my wife. Since I'm usually at work all day, and the thought of a stalker hovering around my neighborhood made me a bit nervous, I ditched the user name and created a new one, "Capmaster". I figure if he sees that he scared me off, he might leave it alone.

Apparently after the phine call, he stopped posting here and hasn't since February (I'm 99% sure I know who it was). I haven't received any calls since then, or seen any suspicious cars lurking in the neighborhood either. I had also warned my family to be on the lookout, that there's some nut making threats.

It's been 6 months now and not a peep from this person. A few mods and two regular members here know my previous handle, but I don't want to wave the red flag by mentioning it yet.

Since then I've seen some real nutcases come out of the woodwork, like Na**d G**k, NYSoftware or whatever, many alternate identities for these head-cases, and the random hateful bastard. I guess I'm just posting this to make you aware that there are those out there who may just be waiting for someone to terrorize. Don't assume that everybody here, especially members who are new, are all buddy-buddy. There are some major sickos running around

Not bad advice to keep certain information private. I tend to let more personal info slip than I should. I've never been too worried about it. I haven't had to kill anyone since....well, nevermind. That would be the too much personal info thing again.

If it was only me he was stalking I'd say "bring it on ...I'll have a nice little surprise waiting for you when you show up" But when the family gets involved, it's time to walk softly and swallow one's pride. That's what I did and it turned out OK.

My first reaction to his threat was to beg him to come on over, but I didn't say anything. After I cooled off and thought it out, I realized is was best to hold my tongue.

When I first started posting as Capmaster, I even had an alternate identity: Air Force Weapons Specialist officer. It was close enough to what I really do, in case the subject matter here turned in that direction. But rest assured, I'm not military, but rather DOE or, more accurately, NNSA-funded where I work. I couldn't bear to have a bogus identity that didn't work in the nuclear weapons area

I had posted it in one thread, and even had it as a sig pic for a while there. When I posted it again as Capmaster, I half suspected someone would remember that older post and got a bit nervous, but nobody mentioned it.

You can find most nuclear secrets on a few Middle East Blogs ... just do a few google searches ...

Thanks Will. I appreciate that. I "fit in" right away because I think I have kindred spirits here on videohelp. This one nut was the extreme exception and I'd be surprised if that ever happens here again. I just happened to be the unlucky candidate when he showed up.

I'll have to check on it. My wife's got friends coming in and we're going to see "Tournament of Kings" for like the umpteenth time. Good show though. They also upped the ticket price $10 to like $50 a ticket, but still well worth it.
