  1. uuum ok. these are probobly some dumb question, but i need to ask them. i have some family videos on SVCD that i need to convert to DVD because i want to give some to other family members. The reason i want to convert the SVCD is because the DVD players my family has do not support VCD's or SVCD's, but do support DVD-R.

My problem is i want to convert the SVCD but i don't want to use the patch method, because i want to ensure compatability with their players. The program i tried to use, which i REALLY liked, was WinAVI because it was easy to use and it was FAST!

First thing i did was extract the mpg from the svcd disk using isobuster. The SVCD was 2 disks (roughly 1hour 30min - a family reunion, etc..) so what i did was merge the two mpg's together using TMPGenc (MPEG-2 Super VideoCD VBR) which gave me an mpg a little over a gig. then opened in winavi and converted to DVD. 2 hours later i went to play the VOB to make sure all the video i wanted was present. The quality of the video took a huge down fall. It looked like it went from SVCD to VCD, not SVCD to DVD.

My question is are there any other ways to make winavi look better? i want all the video on one DVD, but i dont want bad quality. Are there any other programs that are simple to use, that dont take 10 hours to encode (TMPGenc)? Any guides or personal suggestions that may assist me in any way.

Thanks in advance for any help.

SVCD2DVDMPG does a decent job. Though you didn't want to transcode.

I hate to say it but the best way, IMO, is TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc author, or similar combination. I would not merge the 2 video files, but let the authoring program 'combine' them.

Easy to use and fast will rarely get you the best quality.
